ALLAMON LINER HANGERS ACHIEVE HIGHER LOAD CAPACITIES AND HIGHER-PRESSURE RATINGS IN THE BAKKEN SHALE, NORTH DAKOTA

Challenge

For operators in the Bakken Shale, horizontal wells can create massive compressive and bending forces that increase likelihood of damage to downhole tools. Deeper operations and longer laterals mean that operators need tools with higher load capacities and higher-pressure ratings. Faced with this challenge of large compression loads, a major operator in the area came to Allamon Tool for a liner hanger solution that could handle weight on them to set on the bottom and be as reliable as it is safe.

Solution

The ATC premium slip liner hanger and DH2 Running Tool were the ideal solution. The liner hanger was set via applied pressure internal to the work string. No manipulation of the work string was required other than simply slacking off onto the slips once the setting pressure is reached. With the DH 2, the client was able to put twice the compression as the industry standard. The DH-2 liner running tool is the industry’s first liner running tool to accommodate 130,000 lbs. of push, enabling the client to drill down or ream the liner to the desired depth.

In this case, ATC products proved themselves once more, achieving a 100% success rate for hangers set and a 100% success rate for packers set.
